KERRY PACKER: The outrageous antics of the Billionaire Media Mogul.

Kerry Packer, not a name that many of you would have heard this generation, but was a household name in the early 2000s. Even though he died when he was only 68 years old, the super rich media mogul who used to be the most important person in Australia, did a lot more in just one year of his life than most people do in ten years. It's safe to say that having $6.5 billion and control over broadcasting all over the country really made a big difference.

He turned his family owned 100 million dollar business into one of the greatest media empires ever.

#1- In 1987, Packer made a fortune at the expense of disgraced tycoon Alan Bond. He reportedly sold Bond the Nine Network at the record price of A$1.05 billion in 1987, and then bought it back three years later for a mere A$250 million, when Bond's empire was collapsing. Packer later quipped, "You only get one Alan Bond in your lifetime, and I've had mine".

However, Packer’s first love was always gambling.

“Betting is like a disease, which is not understood by those who do not have it,”

And boy, did he tip heavy.

#2 - Packer was once in such good spirits about winning $20 million that evening, he dropped $1 million on the MGM staff. On two other occasions, he paid the six-figure mortgages of two separate cocktail waitresses – the first simply because he took a liking to her, and the second because he’d accidentally bumped into her, causing a tray of drinks to spill.

In the 1990s, Kerry Packer was celebrating his polo team's victory in an English village. He wanted to treat his friends to food and drinks, so they tried two places. The first pub was closed, and they weren't treated well. The second pub's owner offered them sandwiches made from ham.

After eating, the owner gave them a bill for £128. Packer appreciated the effort, so he paid the bill and gave a tip of £100,000. He had a funny request too. He told the owner to show the check to the first pub's person who didn't give them food.

It was a night of fun, kindness, and a touch of humour

# 3 - Kerry Packer had a famous story involving a loud Texan. The Texan wanted to join Packer's game, but Packer didn't want him there. The Texan bragged about being rich, saying he had $100 million.

Packer took out a coin and said, "Let's flip the coin to decide."

The Texan got embarrassed and went back to his table, without saying more. Packer showed him who's boss in a clever way!

Kerry Packer was never one to sit around doing nothing. When his health got really bad and he couldn't get better, he told the doctors to let him go. A week before he passed away, he told his heart doctor that he was getting very weak and wanted to die in a respectful way.

He had a heart attack 15 years earlier and was dead for seven minutes. This made him realise that there's nothing after we die. He told someone named Nick Grenier that there's no one waiting for us after we die, and no one to judge us, so we can live how we want.

On December 26, 2005, he died. He probably wouldn't have wanted a big fuss. Just a man finally resting.
