The Gucci Story: From bellboy to luxury designer.

The Gucci Story: From bellboy to luxury designer.

Today, we look at the origins of Gucci, perhaps the most well known luxury brand in the world. Well, it is not your regular rags-to-riches story so brace yourselves, folks, you’re in for a wild read!

It’s the 1920’s and Guccio Gucci, a young man with big dreams, is working as a bellboy at the swanky Savoy Hotel in London town. Man, this has already started giving me the “ The Grand Budapest Hotel” ( an iconic film directed by Wes Anderson) vibes!

While carrying luggage for wealthy guests, he noticed their expensive, stylish suitcases and he thought to himself “Why not create my own luxury luggage line?”. This is where it all starts, friends. Gotta have them big dreams!

So, what does he do next, you ask?

He collected leftover leather from the hotel’s upholstery shop and started crafting his own distinctive leather goods.

Apparently, his leather goods were so good, they impressed the wealthy and elite who were guests at the hotel.

Their word spreads like wildfire and before you know it, Guccio boasted of a very wealthy clientele list, full of A-listers and cinema stars all vying to get their hands on his leather goods.

He knows he’s onto something big and nothing can stop him.

He opens up shop in Florence, Italy, his homeland, and bam, Gucci’s brand takes off like a rocket.

So the next time you’re carrying your chic Gucci bag, remember that it all began with a bellboy who dared to dream big!
